Engineering Roles at Ontic
As we don't design products from scratch, engineering at Ontic is an exciting department where you're solving puzzles and challenges that arise from becoming the OEM to existing products and ensuring their airworthiness in the real world. Sometimes that might mean working on a part that's been in production for over 50 years, and sometimes it concerns parts needed for brand new aircraft on an airframer's production line.
From redesigning the Boeing 777's fuel probes to be more reliable, to reverse engineering actuators due to piece part obsolescence, our engineers have solved some major problems for our customers over the years. Technician Roles at Ontic
With the nature of our product license acquisition business model, there's always a new product line coming into Ontic so our Technicians are trained on a number of products and skills so that we can respond to the everchanging landscape of our product range, as well as customer demand.
This means we buck the trend of traditional Technician roles where you work on one product line for the majority of your career. Variety is a daily fact at Ontic - and because of this, there's lots of opportunity to grow and develop your skills and career as you want.
Our Technicians have come from all sorts of backgrounds previously; clock makers, automotive technicians, even retail workers who assembled bikes in their spare time! Because we invest heavily in training our Technicians anyway, we don't mind if you don't have experience in aerospace. All that's required is a hands-on attitude and an interest in building, fixing, or figuring out how things work.

Ed's Story
Stepping into Leadership
A couple of years after joining Ontic, Ed was encouraged to apply for the role of MRO & Stores Cell Manager - an opportunity that pushed him outside his comfort zone.
“I didn’t have much experience with Stores, so I was unsure about going for the role. However, Ontic were really keen for me to learn the process, and they helped me take the plunge to try something new. With the right guidance, I was able to take on responsibilities I hadn’t had before, such as bringing new licences online. I was given full responsibility, with managers always there to support me.”
To support his progression, Ontic encouraged Ed to complete his ILM Level 5 qualification. At Ontic, aspiring leaders are supported to undertake management training through our reimbursement program, helping them build the knowledge, confidence and skills needed to become the best leaders they can be throughout their career.
Progressing in Production
In 2023, Ed was promoted to Production Cell Manager at Ontic’s Bishops Cleeve site.
“I was really hesitant about moving from Staverton since I helped open it in 2016/17 as part of Triumph. But Ontic are really encouraging of people to try different areas and roles… and honestly, it’s been a great move. The team is just as great and it’s been great for my career!”
Less than two years later, Ed progressed again into the role of Production Manager. Today, he leads a team of around 130 Technicians and six Cell Managers, overseeing production delivery and supporting teams on the shop floor. His consistent positive, solutions-driven approach - combined with his unwavering commitment to mentoring others - has meant he’s thrived in every role he’s had throughout his career.
Having benefited from mentorship throughout his own career, Ed’s now dedicated to passing that support (and wisdom) on to his team. Looking to the future, he’s ambitious to progress to a Head of Operations role, and our senior leadership team will support him every step of the way.
